Spending Freeze Challenge: Day 7

Super Bowl Sunday! Oh man, what a toughie. We didn’t purposely plan this challenge during an “American holiday” – but alas here we are. Did you plan for the Super Bowl in advance? Or will you show up to the party empty-handed? Maybe you’ll kick it solo this year?

Day 7 Prompt: What are your Spending-Freeze Super Bowl plans?

Side Note: We want also want to know which you care about more this year – the ads or the game?

  1. I am bringing tequila jello shots…. AKA what was left in my house to bring something to the Super Bowl. I guess that is what happens when you just looking your pantry/freezer to see what you can bring. I don’t care about the ads OR the game. I CARE ABOUT THE FOOD. Super Bowl food is better than Thanksgiving. There’s nothing I look forward to more than drinking AND eating delicious food. PLUS I’m a senior and this might be the last time we all can get together for a while so I’m pretty excited just to see everyone all at once!

  2. We are going to my brother’s house for the Super Bowl. I just like getting together to eat and hang out with family. Before kids, I actually got to watch the game and commercials. I probably will not get to sit down for very long to watch, but really do enjoy the commercials more. Not much of a football fan, despite the fact that my brother was the star of his college ball team. I just don’t tell him ๐Ÿ™‚ Does that make me a bad big sis? They told us we don’t have to bring anything, but we jokingly said we would bring the toilet paper, LOL! MAYBE we will :0 #toiletpapersagacontinues

  3. I have already planned for the Super Bowl. Already brought my chips already pre order some hot wings about a month ago then pizza.the Super Bowl is about a police competing at the highest level a football and it is televised to everybody nationwide it is a special event almost like a grand holiday. The thing I like most about the Super Bowl is when everybody is watching the same game doesn’t matter who you root for everybody’s having a good time I like enjoying watching the ads I should I say the commercials during the Superbowl and I like watching the football game fantasy any interesting plays for the Super Bowl each year. I’m not much of a fan for either team but my prediction of the Super Bowl Seahawks 37 Patriots 7.everybody there’s no 1 to 10 days freeze have a good weekend and enjoy the Super Bowl and thanks Missouri credit union.

  4. I am spending the Super Bowl at home with my family so I didn’t have to spend a dime. My friends knew I was on the freeze though and said “don’t worry about bringing anything, just come have fun!” I am usually more excited about the ads and the halftime show though to be honest…. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m more of a baseball gal!

Also, I took my little sister to Ulta to pick up a few things she needed (with my mom’s card) last night. It was so nice to go into a store I usually cave in and come out spending nothing!! (It was not easy!!!)

  5. Day 7 tip from Hank the talking piggy bank: Get a Crockpot!!!

A crock pot is perhaps the best deal on earth for reducing cooking costs in a busy family. You can just dump in your ingredients in the morning, put it on simmer, and dinner is done in the evening. There are countless recipes out there for all variety of foods, and every time you cook this way, youโ€™re saving money as compared to eating out. What a better day to get out the trusty old crock-pot than Superbowl Sunday!?!? Cheese Dip, Little Smokies, Meatballs, Chili…countless appetizers just waiting for football fans! Fortunately this year is the first year we have opted out of hosting a party, and I couldn’t be happier! We aren’t blowing money on lots of food, I’m not stressing out about everything being prepared on time, and most of all I don’t have to clean the house just to have to clean up after everyone again when they leave! I could care less about the game or the commercials so I think we may pop a frozen pizza in the oven and catch up on some recorded shows! No drunks, no mess, and most of all no un-necessary spending ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I was not prepared for the Super Bowl, but I went to my kitchen found items I had and then went to handy Pinterest and found a recipe for mozzarella stuffed meatballs, let’s hope they are good. I am interested in both the game and commercials equally.

  7. I was prepared in advance for a super bowl party, but I am still sick so I am not attending. I have homework to do as well so it was easy again to not spend money today. I would watch the game if I didn’t have work to do. It seems they released most of the ads online in advance. Most of them were sexist and awful even more so than previous years.

  8. Socializing is what the superbowl is really about for me. We did go to a party, but didn’t have to bring anything except diapers which I had already purchased in advance. Not much of a commercial or football fan. I was just thankful that I got home in time for my bedtime. Wow…..I sound almost like Nelly Negative; I had a great time, and am thankful for such good friends. I think they should consider moving sporting events to afternoons so a bbq could have taken place instead of snack foods. How much fun and healthier would that be? Great day overall. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I had a superbowl party at my house however, we planned for this and did potluck so everybody brought something! I didnt even leave the house today! Im super disappointed that the Seahawks lost!!! I’m not a fan of either team but really don’t like the Patriots! So glad I have great friends that brought great food! And, I didnt have to spend a dime!!! Woo hoo!!!!

  10. I was going to go to a friends for superbowl but I ended up getting off work late and the weather was pretty nasty outside so I just went home! I am watching commercials on my computer!

  11. I did prepare food for a potluck yesterday, a casserole of pasta and green beans with cheesy fettucini sauce, but we we were meeting to sing and dance, not to watch football. Honestly, I think your questions are poorly designed, since they’re making assumptions that all your contestants are identical! Not a very wise idea given the great diversity in Columbia’s citizens! Last time you assumed we all had family living with us and now you’re assuming we’re all involved in the Super Bowl? I’m not oblivious, and I did listen to the news on the radio, got the results and caught some of the controversies, as well as watching some of the ads and half-time entertainment online. Even though I watched Mizzou football when I was in high school in Columbia, I haven’t watched in person since, and have lot of other activities I prefer to football! I’m happy for those who enjoy it, to each his own, right? But why should we all be the same, or have the same hobbies, interests, or activities? I’m a big believer in each person’s free will to express their unique individuality in whatever way is best for them (provided, of course, it doesn’t harm anyone else!) Naturally, the group singing and dancing I took part in was not harming anyone, and generated a lot of fun, friendship, and joy! For all the high stress level of the game and the disputed ending, we may have had an easier time enjoying ourselves than a lot of unhappy football viewers!
